About Anisa.
Anisa is a current second-year Master's student at the University of
Georgia, studying under Dr. Reid Messich. She holds a Bachelor's
Degree in Music Performance from Florida State University, where
she studied with Dr. Eric Ohlsson.
Anisa grew up in a small Florida town named Crestview, situated
right between Pensacola and Panama City.
During her middle and high school years, Anisa was part of the
band programs. Beginning on clarinet, Anisa did not switch to the
oboe until her 8th-grade year of middle school. In high school,
where she attended Crestview High School, she was part of their
marching band program and would also perform with the
All-County band for 3 years. During her freshman year,
she was selected to play with the 9-Star Honor Band program in
Florida. Even though she marched clarinet with the
"Big Red Machine", she was set on honing her oboe skills.
Her teacher, Asher Kelly, inspired her to become serious with her
oboe playing and she eventually decided to become a performer
on the instrument.
Anisa knew where she wanted to attend college as soon as she stepped foot onto Florida State's Campus. Having attended their annual PRISM concert for two years in middle school, she was set on becoming a Nole. In the Spring of 2020, she was accepted into the Music Performance program and studied under Dr. Eric Ohlsson for her Bachelor's degree. While at FSU, she was a part of the Studio Orchestra, a student run organization that focused on bringing movie music and musicians to the stage, as both a player and librarian. She has experience recording for studio sessions and enjoys performing movie/video game music. As well as being part of the Studio Orchestra, Anisa was also an active participant of the Javacaya Arts Conservatory for 2 years.
Anisa has become proficient at her oboe playing ability and has also become fond of the English horn, as she would call it her "favorite" instrument to play. Anisa has also studied the art of reed making and successfully makes and plays on her own reeds. She has performed works such as The Wasps by Vaughan Williams (2nd oboe), Polovtsian Dances by Alexander Borodin (2nd oboe and English horn), and the New World Symphony by Antonin Dvorak (2nd oboe and English horn) with Florida State University's Philharmonic Symphony. She frequently performs chamber work and enjoys playing solo works such as Abandoned Placed by Stuart Greenbaum and Six Metamorphoses after Ovid by Benjamin Britten. Anisa has also performed Choral symphonic works such as Earth Symphony by Jake Runestad (2nd oboe and English horn) and The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci by Jocelyn Hagan (Oboe). Anisa has also performed with Florida State's Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble.
While at the University of Georgia, Anisa has been able to keep her passion for studio music alive by participating in recording sessions with the composition studio. Anisa has also taken classes learning to compose for films. As a member of the UGA orchestras, Anisa has been able to perform Berlioz's Symphony Fantastique (English horn), Mahler's 2nd Symphony (Oboe 2), Dvorak's 8th Symphony (Oboe and English horn), and Rachmaninoff's 2nd Symphony (3rd oboe and English horn). As part of the opera orchestra, Anisa has performed Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera and Korngold's Der Ring des Polykrates.
Along with performing in the UGA orchestras and bands, Anisa is an active member of the Lawrenceville Symphony Orchestra as both oboist and English hornist. With the symphony, she has played Beethoven's 5th Symphony (Oboe 1) and Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 (Oboe 2).
Anisa dreams to become a studio musician, working on both video games and movie soundtracks.
When she's not playing her oboe, you can find her playing video games, reading, or gardening on her patio. She has a cat named Hobi, who is named after K-Pop artist J-hope of BTS.
